- Shreyoshi Ghosh yes Utpal Chakrabarty that's why I mentioned Devtaas who are considered to be bit inferior to the Trinity as per Puranas and led by Indra with enmity to Asuras; quite entertaining though
- Angsuman Chakraborty Asuras never lacked the power of doing good, they were more materialistic that's all. Ravana was a Asura but also a good ruler. Prahlad was a Asura and a Great ruler and so was Bali. Asuras can in no way be equated with "devil" which originates in abrahamic religions which preaches a strong fear of God.
- Utpal Chakrabarty You will still find some evil guy being empowered by Indra - these stories are too symbolic to make sense.
- Angsuman Chakraborty Interestingly Asuras were the good guys in Zoroastrianism. Ahura is Asura as Iranians pronounce h for s as Hindu for Sindu etc.
- Utpal Chakrabarty Angsuman Chakraborty - is quite! Except that hHe does not realize that there has been no better king than Rama
- Shreyoshi Ghosh it is surprising when we read our Puranas and the Old Testament we find all heroic characters are not devoid of flaws, they have made their share of mistakes and acts which can be considered hideous and grave compared to ours, still they are mythologic...See More
- Angsuman Chakraborty Rama was a great King. But I don't know if he was the greatest. In either case that doesn't invalidate or even question anything I have said before
- Angsuman Chakraborty Why Rama is so revered can only be understoof when Adhatyma Ramayan or more importantly Yoga Basistha is read.
- Angsuman Chakraborty It isn't as simple as that. All the caharacters in Ramayana are rich and complex not one-dimensional characters who can be classified as good or evil so easily.
- Shreyoshi Ghosh exactly that's where Rama's greatness is, he gave up personal comforts for the good of people while Ravana did the reverse; Ravana was a great chemist and a Brahmin too but Rama established his supremacy thru his acts of sacrifice for others
- Angsuman Chakraborty And Bibhisana wasn't a bad ruler to succeed Rama. So the nation wasn't really destroyed or damaged much.
- Angsuman Chakraborty Rama showed the ideals of a great King who is first and formost a servant of his people. Tell that to mms of sg!
- Angsuman Chakraborty However Rama's greatness lies in his deeds and actions even before he ascended the throne. He has achieved the ultimate goal in his youth even before the question of ascendancy arose.
- Angsuman Chakraborty They are referred to as Asura in all text. Asura were really a materialistic race, that's all. In that light many of us today can be considered to be Asuras
- Angsuman Chakraborty Many Asuras were Brahma Gyanis too which wouldn't be possible if they were "devil".
- Shreyoshi Ghosh An Asura is not by birth but by conduct, Prahlad's descendant Bali known in the times of Samudra Manthan was raised to the position of Indra by Vishnu due to his noble traits. Asura which literally means one who is not a great warrior has the spiritual...See More
- Angsuman Chakraborty There is no place of devil in Sanatn Dharma. Where every being is considered nothing but a part of the Supreme being nay even the Supreme being Himself, there cannot be an "evil incarnate" as professed in abrahamic religions.
- Angsuman Chakraborty In Smriti Asuras were defined as a race of people. Whereas conduct of certain Asuras made them even superior to devas they had to fight very hard to get there.
- Shreyoshi Ghosh Abrahamic religions suffer from divisive problem between good & evil unlike Sanatan Dharma which is all pervading Angsuman Chakraborty, I have argued this once in a blog of mine http://themythicalphoenix.blogspot.in/2012/03/against-einsteins-notion-of-evil.html
- Angsuman Chakraborty While I am not arguing that one's conduct defines who we are. However in the bigger light it becomes a moot point as everyone is part of the Supreme being nay indivisible with the Supreme being so superiority is all in the mind.

- Angsuman Chakraborty Great to know so many people interested in Sanatan Dharma. Here are some very good books on Sanatan Dharma and Indian philosophy you may want to take a look at your spare time http://pi.vu/B2WE
You may also want to check our Facebook page on Inspirational Thoughts: https://www.facebook.com/Inspirational.Thoughts.Wisdom - Shreyoshi Ghosh Authority is in our understanding and our power to make others understand, Shruti Smriti from which Vedas were composed also give the lenience to challenge their authority (possibly the only religious scripture in the world to allow so); mythologies (P...See More
- Angsuman Chakraborty You missed the point. For people who wants to seriously understand Sanatan Dharma they need a consistent version of all that is said in our scriptures. Puranas are sometimes self-contradictory and hence confusing. Whereas Sruti consistently and coherently defines and explains the whole.
Logic is always welcome but vichara becomes fruitless when the grounds to stand upon are not solid enough. - Manjit Singh Nothing has more authority than our own judgement and moral sense..........what a great thought.Hats off to you, Shreyoshi Ji. God bless you!
- Angsuman Chakraborty The problem with moral sense is that it wildly differs across cultures and even within the same culture. It defies a common ground and hence cannot be treated as absolute by any standards.
- Shreyoshi Ghosh of course it is step by step Vedas are for evolved mind and six Vedic philosophies are for those who are even more superior and as we gradually move towards greater self-evolution we reach a stage when we can say Soham that is when Utpal Chakrabarty's mirror reflects god; though this reflection happens because we already have it in us it is our heritage our inborn true nature
- Angsuman Chakraborty If Soham is the truth then it always reflects God, its just that we see it but don't realize that is what it is
- Shreyoshi Ghosh that is the right question detective (borrowed from I-Robot) which brings us to the post right at the top
- Shreyoshi Ghosh everywhere what we see isn't that a reflection of our mind, how we perceive the world and how we react to it, at least that's what I believe
- Shreyoshi Ghosh It is quite a task indeed, to consciously introspect on it, we are too selfish to do that, although we ask this question often; we have to give up a lot if we really want to know, at least give up desiring things the way we want them with our material mindset
