Bhitarkanika, mangrove forests in Orissa is highly overrated. A half day trip to the forests is packaged as 3day 2 nights. 1st day and 3rd day there are no tour programmes. Only 2nd day there is the jungle safari for half a day. In the afternoon there is only visit to a nearby port. The wild life as shown on websites are hardly visible except for crocodiles and cranes. One can hardly see deer or monkey which are common in any forest. Besides what they as package tour is not package tour at all. Commuting is utterly difficult and not included in package costs unlike other forest safaris in India. For people who are jungle and wild life lovers this place will prove to be big disappointment. Also please note the place of stay is not in jungles as is done in Jungle safari or Sundarban Mangrove forests. In Bhitarkanika place of stay is in a village way far from actual jungle. Visitors are recommended a complete NO. I have stayed at Sand & Pebbles which is a complete disaster.
