Smoking IS Injurious 2 Health

Smoking may turn on some genes in the body in a permanent and harmful way, scientists said on Thursday in a study that may help explain why the risk of cancer remains high even after smokers quit.

They found many genetic changes that stop when a smoker quits, but found several genes that stay turned on for years, including several not previously linked with tobacco use.

"These irreversible changes may account for the persistent lung cancer risk despite smoking cessation," the researchers wrote in their report, published in BioMed Central journal BMC Genomics.

In any cell, only about one-fifth of the genes are switched on at any given time.

Raj Chari of the British Columbia Cancer Research Centre in Vancouver and colleagues took tissue samples from 20 smokers and former smokers and compared their gene activity to one another and to the genes of four people who had never smoked. They found some DNA repair genes were turned off in smokers and stayed off in the former smokers. Damage to the DNA is one of the main causes of cancer. One gene that was switched on in smokers and former smokers was CABYR, a gene involved in helping sperm to swim.

It may also help other types of cells move. For instance, cells in the airways may be helped to move their tail-like cilia to push mucus along. And it has been associated with brain tumours. Another gene that was switched on in smokers but not in people who had never smoked was called ENTPD8. It appears to play a role in damaging DNA.

Other genetic changes seen in smokers appeared to reverse themselves a year or more later in the former smokers. Some were involved in helping cells in the airways repair and regenerate.

Outer Wisdom

Let your life be as deep as the ocean, but let it also be as wide as the sky.

It has been a long time since I have been losing interest in what I am doing as I have been thinking all the worldly knowledge I acquire is worthless when it come to liberation of the soul. But as usual my spiritual Guru’s writing solved the problem once again.

As the above mentioned line well explains how our inner life should have deep spiritual knowledge but our outer life again should be well equipped not only with the knowledge required for our survival but about other fields of wisdom and knowledge of this world. It would make the outer side of our life as wide as the sky giving us a better understanding of human character and the world thereof. Hence we should in no way ignore our daily activities as trivial things. Such things make us survive and our survival is critical for our liberation. Also such knowledge gives us better command over what we do and make good teacher out of us. The various fields of knowledge keep lesser room for negative thoughts and hence make us better human beings.

To be a complete human hence we will have to strengthen our roots on both sides. As we could see with all great spiritual leaders this is the truth. I will take the example of my spiritual guru Swami Vivekananda – the immense knowledge he had in various fields was incomparable. To make people understand our point we will have to speak their business language and get into their mind set. Without knowledge about various fields the task would be a difficult one. Even if we do not know anything about a specific field just showing mere interest in it would serve our purpose to a great extent. Hence a learning attitude towards our own work and also others’ would only help us take a big leap forward.

Last but not the least whatever we do there should be honesty in it, we should be doing it from our heart then only we will excel in it.

However we should keep one thing in our mind that it is for our survival and survival of the world thereof. Liberation can be attained by inner wisdom.

Thanks to my Lord and to my Guru.

The Language of Unspoken Words

Man is a unique specie of the world which communicates its messages with other with the help of written or spoken words of a language. However, the real messages are often not understood by the literal interpretation of the words as those are “encrypted” in the spoken words. This article provides a new paradigm of the relationship between body, mind and soul and explains the real mechanism of understanding using the concepts of Aatmic Science. It explains, how one can communicate the intended message to other people more effectively by the help of unspoken words.
